Daily Prayer
Tuesday - Saturday. 8 a.m. Durrington Church
Monday - Friday. 8 a.m. Figheldean Church.
The Church of England is the established Church in the country and is governed by certain rules and regulations known as “Canons”. One of these states that, “the minister of the parish, together with all other ministers licensed to serve in the said parish, being at home and not otherwise reasonably hindered, shall resort to the Church morning(s)… and, warning people by the tolling of the bell, say or sing the Common Prayers.”
Beyond being a legal requirement for Anglican clergy, praying for the needs of the parish is actually a great honour and privilege as it keeps us rooted in the community, sharing in some way in all the joys and sorrows that occur in everyday life. Morning Prayer involves a regular reading of the psalms, which is the bible’s prayer book, along with a pattern of other bible readings from the Old and New Testaments. Certain feast days and festivals may be celebrated and these are reflected in some of the prayers used.
But these are not private services and anyone is welcome to join with us. On most days from Monday to Saturday morning prayer is said in Durrington and Figheldean Churches at 8 a.m., and if you are passing by or have a particular need for prayer please feel free to join us.
The services of Morning Prayer, Evening Prayer and Night Prayer for today are available on this site to help you find time for God during your day.
